Pink candy
for tape
2005
Pink candy is a part of a music track that was originally composed in 2001 for Yo Children Opera in Utrecht. It was a short operatic piece entitled Pink candys alter ego. In this part, soprano appears solo. She looks like a pink candy (wearing cute, pink outfit with a lot of ribbons and sashes, full make up). She sings like an angel with a lot of devotion and passion. But there is something disturbing, something behind her presence. There is another voice sounding as if from a far distance, dark and low (Pink candys alter ego - alto).
Pink candys alter ego
Dark stage. The table with all the singers. There are only four of them acting. The others have no spotlight, sleeping present, taking their frozen poses imitating the characters from the previous operas.
The only, very dim light is on the face of The Time (baritone) in the middle of the stage. He turns slowly (one turn every 2 3 seconds, not very regularly) the ratchet as if he would turn the wheel of fortune. He stares somewhere far, somewhere where there is no time with blunt eyes wide open.
The soprano appears singing passages (bright light on her). She looks like a pink candy (wearing possibly cute, pink outfit with a lot of ribbons and sashes, full make up). She sings like an angel with a lot of devotion and passion, opening widely her eyes and mouth. But there is something disturbing, something behind her presence. There is another voice accompanying her, sounding as if from a far distance, dark and low (Pink candys alter ego - alto). But we cannot see who is singing. (the alto is on the other side of the table, and there is no light spotted on her).
13 seconds before the end (three bars) Time starts also to sing and he also has his alter ego (bass who we can not see). But their passage is much more dramatic, and this overcomes the mood set by the Pink candy.
