Written in 2006, Opalescence for three female voices and electronics has the emotional and expressive values of my previous compositions.
Middle e is used as the centre of condensed harmonic and melodic structures needled around, revolving the material through mathematical principles that have come to characterize my music. Vocal techniques are detached from the tradition of classical singing; instead, intimate, soft voices and folkloric intonations influence the work. At times, the listener's perception is pressed as the singers ripple the live electronics like a blanket of sound, mystifying the landscape it creates. In this piece, the electronics take their character from the voices by multiplying them, lending a defined, characteristic harmonizing colour.
First performance of the piece happened at XXII Festival de Musica de Alicante 2006 at Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporaena in September 2006.
Opalescence has been awarded at international competitions in BMW Biennale Musica in Szczecin 2006 and is a finalist of Bourges International Competition 2007. In 2007 it has been released on the CD of International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) in Copenhagen.
