Exospheres
for 8 channel tape
September 2006
Duration: 9 min 40 sec.

This multichannel work was inspired by the orchestral works of late Ligeti. His pieces have been fertilising my imagination for a long time: the strong, dense chords and clusters, the static, monstrous colours of orchestration. I always wondered, what if the listener were to continue into the sound and dive into the colours of orchestration enhanced by the surreal qualities of resonant filters...

The piece evokes strong, imaginative connotations: various spheres of the imagination, of existence. It is named after the uppermost layer of the atmosphere, as it is only from the exosphere that atmospheric gases, atoms and molecules can escape into outer space. Enjoy.

First performance: Sonora Festival, Hermosillo City (Mexico), Oct 5th 06
Realised at Sonic Arts Research Centre, Belfast, Northern Ireland
