Aurelia Saxophone Quartet

Written for the AURELIA SAXOPHONE QUARTET who commisioned the piece.
The Aurelia Quartet recorded a double CD, first with Bach's Kunst der Fuge arranged for four saxophones. The second disc is an interesting modern counterpoint to that material. The musicians asked 15 composers to compose fugues or pieces in reaction to Bach's composition. Hearing them perform at Muziekgebouw Amsterdam for the CD release concert in September 2005 was an exhilarating experience. The sleeve depicts the contents well - perfect, distant coldness with a twist.
Contre bruit is a short, very traditionally-written fugue with a not-so-traditional counterpoint of tape noises - a reflection on modernity and history.
